Whippoorwill Septic brings septic tank pumping, conventional and aerobic system installation, repairs, grease trap pumping, and maintenance plans to Garrison and the northeastern corner of Nacogdoches County. Garrison began as a railroad stop. The town took shape in the 1880s when the Houston, East and West Texas Railway pushed through on its way from Nacogdoches toward the Sabine, and it incorporated in 1890, which by the town’s own account makes it the oldest incorporated community in Nacogdoches County. Railroad ties, pulpwood, a few decades of coal mining, and later a brick plant fed on local clay kept it going. Today Garrison is a town of under a thousand people on US-59, the future I-69 corridor, about 18 miles northeast of Nacogdoches, surrounded by pine timber tracts, hay meadows, and cattle pasture that roll toward the Attoyac Bayou and the Shelby County line. Nearly everything outside the small city limits runs on an on-site septic system.
The soil here is the red East Texas ground the Nacogdoches soil series is named for: a fine sandy loam surface over a reddish sandy clay loam or clay loam subsoil. That top layer can look like it drains beautifully while the clay beneath it holds water, and the bayou bottoms northeast of town bring wetter ground into the picture. Where the clay is shallow or the water table rises seasonally, a conventional drain field struggles and an aerobic treatment unit is usually the better fit; where the sandy loam runs deep, trenches still do fine. Texas requires a licensed soil evaluation on the specific lot before a permit is issued, and our licensed site evaluators do that work on site rather than guessing from a county map.
Garrison sits roughly 40 miles north of our Lufkin shop, straight up US-59 through Nacogdoches, and we run regular routes through the northern end of the county rather than making it a one-off trip. We carry OSSF permits through the county’s authorized agent for Nacogdoches County from soil evaluation to final inspection, pump and inspect existing tanks, repair aging rural systems, and service grease traps for the stores and kitchens along the highway. Our coverage takes in Garrison and the countryside around it, down US-59 toward Appleby and up toward Timpson, and for properties across the bayou in Shelby County we work with that county’s authorized agent as well.
We also serve nearby communities: Nacogdoches, TX · Center, TX · Henderson, TX. Or browse all of our East Texas service areas.

Septic questions from Garrison homeowners and landowners
Yes. Texas requires an OSSF permit to install, replace, or significantly alter a septic system, and for Garrison-area properties it is issued through the county’s authorized agent for Nacogdoches County. Whippoorwill Septic prepares the whole package: the licensed site evaluation, the system design, the application, and coordination of the final inspection. If your land is across the Attoyac in Shelby County, we work with that county’s authorized agent instead.
It depends on how deep the sandy loam runs before you hit clay. Around Garrison the surface soil is often fine sandy loam over a sandy clay loam or clay loam subsoil, and when that clay sits close to the surface or holds water through the wet months, a conventional drain field cannot absorb effluent fast enough and an aerobic system is the answer. Where the loam is deep and well drained, trenches are still a good option. The licensed soil evaluation on your lot, a required permitting step our licensed site evaluators perform, settles it.
For most Nacogdoches County households, every 3 to 5 years. A large family, a garbage disposal, or an undersized older tank shortens that interval, while a lightly used place can go a bit longer. If nobody can remember the last pump-out, we can open the tank, measure the sludge layer, and tell you exactly where it stands.
Often it can be repaired. A lot of older systems around Garrison have a sound tank with a failed component: a collapsed inlet baffle, a crushed line, a clogged distribution box, or a drain field that was never sized for today’s water use. We start by inspecting the tank and the field to find the actual fault, then tell you honestly whether a repair makes sense or whether a replacement, which requires a permit through the county’s authorized agent, is the better long-term money.
Yes. We pump and service grease traps for restaurants, convenience stores, and other commercial kitchens in Garrison and along the US-59 corridor in Nacogdoches County. Regular grease trap pumping keeps fats and solids from reaching your septic tank or drain lines, and we can set you up on a recurring schedule matched to your kitchen’s volume.
It depends on the job: a routine pump-out, a repair, or a new conventional or aerobic system, and on your lot’s soil and layout. Prices quoted over the phone for a system nobody has looked at tend to be wrong, so we would rather see your property and give you a real figure. Call 936-824-2281 and we will get you an honest answer.
Whether it is a tank that is overdue, an old system on a timber tract that finally gave out, or a new home site that needs the right design for red clay, Whippoorwill Septic serves Garrison and northern Nacogdoches County with licensed, insured service.
